Argentina

An overview of EAAF investigations and identifications in Argentina during 1994 and 1995. Also, an update on human rights developments in the country, including public confessions and acknowledgments of responsibility by military officers.

Haiti

In 1995, the Human Rights Program of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences (AAAS) in Washington D.C. organized and sponsored two forensic missions to Haiti to assist the work of the Haitian Truth and Justice Commission.

Honduras

At the request of the Commited for the Defense of Human Rights of Honduras (CODEH) -a local nongovernmental human rights organization- EAAF conducted forensic investigations for 30 days in different departments of Honduras. In addition, EAAF held ma seminar on Forensic Anthropology for professionals and students in the area of medicine and law. The mission was sponsored by the European Human Rights Foundation (Belgium) and EAAF.

Guatemala

At the request of a local human rights organization, FAMDEGUA (Familiares de Detenidos Desaparecidos de Guatemala) and the support of the Legal Office of the Archbishop of Guatemala, members of EAAF conducted a preliminary investigation in El Petén. The investigation centered on the village of Dos Rs, La Libertad, in the department of El Petén.

Panama

The Center for Constitutional Justice (CCR) -an American non-governmental organization- requested EAAFÕs assistance in the investigation of the fate of Panamanian victims who died during the 1989 American Invasion of Panama.

Bolivia

Paraguay

In August 1994, the Union of Neuropsychiatric Hospital Workers (SI.TRA.H.N) petitioned the Paraguayan State Prosecutors Office to intervene and investigate serious irregularities at the hospital. On the basis of these allegations, the court began a judicial investigation of the posibility that patients had died at the hospital under suspicious circumstances. At the request of the General State Prosecutor's Office, an EAAF member traveled to Paraguay in November 1994 to assist the investigation.

Colombia

Participation in the First International Workshop on Physical Anthropology, Forensic Sciences and Human Rights, organized by the laboratory of Physical Anthropology at the Museum of the University of Antioquia, Medellin.

Ethiopia

A mission to provide technical assistance to the Special Prosecutor's Office in Addis Ababa.

Europe

Presentation of EAAF's work to a variety of organizations working for the defense of human rights.

United States

Three EAAF members participated at the 93rd meeting of the American Anthropological Association, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia.
